1/2 year birthday!

Today we celebrated Scout's 6 month birthday. She had some of her little friends around to play in the sun, and we made some foot and hand prints in plaster of paris and paint stamps on canvas. The paint ones turned out better--fun keepsakes. Scout is nearly sitting up alone, and one little tooth has popped thru. The last 6 months have certainly flown.

Big Mouth Cod

Oh Man!! I had my mouth open for SO long today, my jaw joint ached. I was 2 1/2 hours in the dentist chair - way too long. I have just one more session and thats it....for a while!
I raced home and changed and we went out for dinner to one of the top restaurants in Sydney ~ Aria, down near the Opera House. The food was delectable, and served beautifully - a feast for the eye as well.
Its a glorious calm warm evening with a hint of autumn, and the half moon sparkled over the harbour. It felt good to be alive.

Picnic rug

Paul wanted a picnic rug big enough for 2 or 4! Lightbulb moment....perfect place to use the squares that he sewed together on my new over locker when he was about 12! He quite liked my new piece of machinery! so I cut him the squares and every day after school he would sew squares to make a strip or 2, and then sew the strips together.
Pauls room was decorated in flags at one point, so the flags come from his flag bed cover.
All perfect for his picnic rug~filled with childhood memories!!

Heart

This is Caroline's creation. She is taking it to her friend in Europe who is turning 60.
We had such fun together whipping up this quilt. We started off yesterday morning with coffee at the Bee Hive!! with Nicky. Then we went to the fabric shop for some bits, came home and cut and we had the top sewn up before dinner!! We were so lucky to have a little cookie in the house. Chantel loves to cook, so she made us dinner.
this morning we batted up the quilt as seen here, Caroline did straight line quilting, we bound it - and here we have a quilt ready to travel!

Fishermen

I never thot of dad when I posted the fish picture. My husband loves fishing too, and here he is on his first experience of ice fishing in Canada, with my dad. It was a pretty neat experience walking ON the lake! He had never walked on water before! Then the great cracking noises sent him skimming across the surface in fear!!

Sharp Teeth

i Keeping my teeth functioning is a challenge. So I have decided to have a big make over...that is getting rid of mercury fillings, new crowns and one of them involves a titanium implant. I had the implant planted today. It was fairly strait forward...now the bone needs to grow around it before a new tooth is attached to it. Don't fish just keep growing new teeth as needed?! That would be so much easier!! AND cheaper!!

Aging

one year
20

40

60

90 I have been putting together a digital slide show of the 90 years of my moms life. Its been very interesting seeing her aging process by flicking thru 100 pictures. Our bodies really do reach their peak by about 20 yrs. and then deterioration sets in. I read today that the baby boomers want to "die young late in life". We are obsessed with keeping young...but does that make us any wiser, any happier, any nicer?? I think of Mom as being contented with her life.
I remember looking at the brown spots on Mom's hands and thinking they were so gross. Now I have them and more. Its good to age gracefully. . . . or disgracefully!!

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is very beautiful with its rugged cliffs and turquoise waters. Its been dubbed 'one of earth's last unspoilt refuges'....except for the famers of course! Lots of wildlife. Its in the Southern Ocean and gets the Roaring Fourties, so this is where many of the early sailing ships ended up...some of them crashed against the cliffs. The light houses were very important beacons.
A rare square lighthouse - Cape Borda.
Brave Ladies!
My friend Jose Symons "posing" with the 'naked ladies'!! Thats what we call these amazing lilies that poke their way thru harsh ground with no leaves and no water.

Peek-a-boo!!

A Red Hat Lady!! I love the red cap on the top of this light house and the natural stonework.

This is Cape du' Couedic lighthouse. Its on the southwest corner of KI.

We hung out at Admirals Arch and watched the New Zealand Fur Seals for quite a while.

Remarkable Rocks ~ truly remarkable!! Such a fun holiday!

Lighthouse touring on Kangaroo Island

Ghost on the cliff! Jose and I had a fun filled 2 days cruising the island to see the light houses. We found a neat craft shop, the odd coffee shop, great lunch stops, and lots of laughs!! we ate a bit of dust too! LOTS of wild life here ~ birds galore, kangaroos, wallabies, goannas, possums, seals...lots of road kill.
Cape Willoughby light. Kangaroo Island was often the first land the sailing ship encountered when they came out of the roaring forties that drove them across the bottom of the world.

The 'contemplation seat' is a memorial to aboriginal women brot here years ago, as slaves to the men.

....and we found Homer Simpson set in stone!!
